Following encouraging news that multiple COVID-19 vaccine candidates have shown greater than 94% efficacy and may receive FDA emergency use authorization in the coming weeks, NILA has compiled resources to help members ensure laboratory personnel handling COVID-19 specimens are among the first individuals to receive a vaccine.
States, with guidance from the federal government, are currently formulating plans to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to essential health care workers and other vulnerable populations. Vaccines may be available for some frontline health care workers before the end of the year.
NILA is encouraging labs to reach out to their governor’s to urge him/her to include laboratory personnel as a priority in the first stage of your state’s vaccine distribution plan. This template letter can be customized to reflect your laboratory’s individual needs.
CDC has shared guidance and collected preliminary plans from all 50 states. We encourage you to review these resources from CDC and the states and use them to tailor the template letter to your governor.
