In a December Medicare Learning Network article, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced changes to the laboratory National Coverage Determination (NCD) edit software coming in the April 2023 quarterly release of the clinical diagnostic laboratory services edit module.
These changes affect laboratories billing Medicare Administrative Contractors for services provided to Medicare patients. The laboratory edit module is updated by CMS as needed to show updates to coding and changes to laboratory NCDs. The NCDs were developed for clinical diagnostic laboratory services by the laboratory negotiated rulemaking committee.
NCDs with coding updates in April include: Serum Iron Studies (190.18), Thyroid Testing (190.22), Lipids Testing (190.23A), and Lipids Testing (190.23B).
